Proffesion Popularity?
i havnt started playing yet, need to wait till mid month pay check. but im very interested. i just have one major question before i roll a character.
what are the "overplayed" proffessions? and the "underplayed" ones? also, what jobs does every party always want. for pve and pvp. and if its different between the 2 please specify. i just dont want to make a character to find out later that im the "rogue from world of warcraft" kind of proffesion and no one wants me cause theirs a million too many of me already. thanks. |

lots of ppl play Warriors in this game (W/Mo to be exact) but the player that probably never gets accepted to mission is mesmers... dunno about monks now, for me its been easier getting monks

awsome thanks. i almost never play melee characters in rpg's. i always prefer the ranged nuking class like mage and ranger. ive been eyeballing an elem/mesmer or an elem/monk.
could you tell me if any proffesion has an edge when it comes to "maximum range" when doing damage, or is it the same for everyone? |

My main character is a Ranger/Elementalist build which I've found to be a healthy ranged damage dealer . Some worry about the energy drain, but I've never experienced a problem with it - and it only gets better with some good runes and weapon upgrades .
I also caved and created a W/Mo to try it out, but I've yet to get one past pre-searing (get bored and delete her to make way for testing other builds out). I'm keen to combine the Monk's speedy energy recharge with the Ele's energy storage. Last edited by Feloriene Bluewolf; Oct 12, 2005 at 11:12 PM // 23:12.. |

But if you are taking area effect damage, then I believe an elementalist has the biggest and most AOE damage. |

yeah i mean how far away from your target can you be
and what about just regular spells vs say a longbow? and are elementalist AOE's all in a circle around the caster? or are their aoe's that i can cast on say a foe 30meters ahead of me and it effect everything around him and you said "wands and staff are next", do you mean they are considered ranged weapons, ie: they shoot somthing from them. or are they melee weapons like swords and axes. |

About AOEs, the answer is both. Different AOE skills do different things. For example, Inferno casts around the caster, while Searing Heat casts on a target location.

Usualy an Ele/x or a Ranger/Ele can be about... 25 feet from the enemy? But that doesnt really matter, I assure you. You can attack with distance spells and still be out of your enemies range of vision. It will come to you quickly. If you want a ranged nuker, go with Ranger/Elementalist or Elementalist/Monk. The latter will probably serve you better for self sufficience, but the Ranger/Elementalist can do more (Interupt oponents, have a pet, etc.) I always say that facing a Rng/Ele is like facing someone with a rocket launcher.

so a ranger would be able to hit an elementalist way before an elementalist can cast a damage spell on the ranger?

so a long bow has only a slight range advantage against an elementalist spells, but arrows can be dodge, and spells cant?
lets pretend you build a ranger and an elementalist to do as much ranged damage as possible. and pretend that the rangers target didnt "manually" dodge any arrows. which proffesion would have a higher DPS? |

Against a single target, I think a ranger would have a higher DPS than an elementalist. Elementalist spells can have longer casting times that can be detrimental to raw DPS, although they can still spike reasonably well (which is arguably more important that constant DPS, though rangers are excellent spikers too). Against multiple targets (particularly in PvE), elementalist is the most powerful by a good margin. With possibly the exception of certain monk or warrior builds in very specific situations.

I think elem make a huge difference with their nukin when playin, especially the later missions; more diffficult. All classes have their purpose. W/mo is very popular and monks are always in demand (specially harder missions). But just cause you're a monk or elem doesn't mean people will take you. We had a monk 2 days ago lvl 20, going into fow who didn't bring a res. wow, that was sad. However if you're good at what your class is meant to do, people will want you.

i personally play a r/e and i love it. it does quite a bit of damage and it doesn't die as quickly as an ele. i think that a ranger can do better dps, but an ele can nuke the crap out of things with big damage hits. besides i always prefer to play classes with real weapons such as warriors and rangers. i dont really fancy the whole necro/mage scene.

Underplayed professions : Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer all are underused because of the difficulty it is to use them properly and effectively. Their armour is the weakest and are important if used correctly so they are the first to be targeted. Every team wants a monk or two for healing because no other class can provide aide to the team like a monk can. Mo/X and E/Mo are very common use. It's different between the two, but I've said all I really want to. |
